VIENTIANE, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government will partner with the private sector on an integrated vehicle and transport management project, to improve traffic governance and enhance urban safety and environment.

The Integrated Vehicle and Transport Management Public-Private Partnership Project will establish nationwide systems for vehicle registration, driver's license management, technical inspections, traffic signal control at over 300 locations nationwide, video surveillance, integrated command centers, improved law enforcement with e-police checkpoints, and parking management.

The project is expected to require an investment of 500 million U.S. dollars, Lao Public Security Television reported on Wednesday.

The project leverages innovative technologies to offer opportunities for improved governance, transparency, capacity building, and institutional development. It aims to drive digital reform by enhancing road safety, law enforcement, and tax revenue collection while improving public services for the benefit of Laos and its people.
