Due to femoral head necrosis disease, Dong Jinxiang has been living on a wheelchair for about a decade. To take care of his handicapped wife, Dong Jidong, who himself has been afflicted with ankylosing spondylitis, gave up his work in a cement plant and chose to clean the streets near their home two years ago just in order to take better care of his wife.
