HAVANA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel reiterated on Saturday his country's support for Venezuela's ruling party amid the ongoing standoff over the delivery of U.S. humanitarian aid.

"Venezuela is not alone. ... Enough of false pretexts to cover up evil plans," Diaz-Canel tweeted.

Venezuela's government has closed border crossings with neighboring Colombia and Brazil to block the delivery of U.S. aid shipments that it believes masks an attempt of intervention.

The Venezuelan opposition's push to take delivery of the aid is seen by government supporters as a cynical political maneuver, since Washington-imposed sanctions have impaired Venezuela's ability to import basic goods and medication.

The United Nations and the International Red Cross have distanced themselves from the aid effort, citing concerns that the it is being instrumentalized for political ends.

"Those who have been impoverished by so many military bases and so many imperialist attacks are the ones who need humanitarian aid," said the Cuban president.

"Enough of cynicism," he added.
