HAVANA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- An official of Cuba's Ministry of Public Health reported on Tuesday the detection of dengue outbreaks in several areas of the country.

Regla Angulo, epidemiology vice-chief of the ministry, explained to the parliament's Health Commission the health actions and the communitarian work undertaken to tackle the communicable disease.

Concerning to the possible appearance of other communicable diseases, Angulo highlighted that at the national level there are no reported cases of cholera, Chikungunya or Zika.

The specialist considered that the Cuban population still lacks of the necessary risk awareness of those diseases despite information campaigns and the educational work displayed by official media.

Angulo cited high temperature, change in rain cycle and landfills of solid waste as the main causes of the proliferation.

Similar to Zika and Chikungunya, dengue is a mosquito-borne tropical disease, with symptoms including high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash. Enditem
